What is a Moon Circle?
Our moon symbolises the continuous expansion and contraction of all that is. Lunar rituals can help us to organise and embrace the continuous flux and impermanence of everything we experience and live in greater alignment with the natural rhythms of this rock that gives us life.
Things often feel a little more intense for a few days either side of a new or full moon. Twice a month, to honour these lunar events, Jade holds a safe, soothing and womb-like space within which we can slow down, soothe the nervous system and give space to anything that wants to be felt, seen and acknowledged within us.
We begin with gentle meditation and grounding breathwork practices to ease us softly into the simplicity of the present moment. There is nothing to do; as we slow down and simply become a witness to what’s alive in and around us in each moment, we allow any emotions to be there and be seen and felt in a compassionate and healing way, as well as any guidance or intuitive insights to be heard with crystal clarity. We will then have some silent time for journalling - for setting intentions if its a new moon, or emotional processing and healing if the moon is full; this is also a time to disempower any unhelpful thoughts we may have noticed when meditating, by taking them out of the mind and bringing them into the material realm on paper, as well as a chance to write down any insights, visions or messages we may have. We will then come together for a (totally optional) sharing circle to feel our oneness and connection, bringing about healing through hearing and being heard, and bringing any intentions into a more material realm through speaking them out loud and having the courage to share them with others. Sharing anything that feels vulnerable or exposing is incredibly powerful and healing for both the speaker and the listeners.
Above all, we will be giving our minds, bodies, hearts and souls a lot of nurturing and love so we leave feeling lighter and can share our light with those around us.
Each circle is slightly different - catered to the particular energies and astrology of each lunation.
New moons are all about new beginnings. At this time of the month, with the invisible moon existing only in our imaginations, it’s a potent time to set an intention for something we’d like to bring into our lives. With the new moon we often drink ceremonial cacao, and sometimes bring in the profound practice of Yoga Nidra, to set our intentions through planting seeds in the deepest layers of consciousness.
Each full moon often brings about endings, completions or culminations in certain areas of our lives. Additionally, when the moon is fully revealed and luminous in the sky, we often experience the uncovering of something that has been previously hidden or unknown to us. The full moon is a time to surrender to everything exactly as it is - to put our personal plans to one side and trust in the plans of our deeply intelligence and beautifully loving universe. These hard truths, revelations or endings can often be emotional. Even if nothing is revealed to us or nothing significant appears to happen externally, our internal emotions are heightened and brought to the surface each month at the time of the full moon so that they can be seen, felt and healed. This is supposed to happen, and surrendering to this process is incredibly healing and powerful. As our emotions demand our attention, we have a profound opportunity to notice that which is no longer serving us and practise letting go…
With the full moon we often practice Yin Yoga, to help release also on a physical level through letting go of any tension that is no longer serving us. Our bodies can often tense up when the moon is full. A lot of people struggle to sleep when the moon is full; this evening Yin yoga practice is very likely to help
What is Ceremonial Cacao?
Cacao was originally used medicinally and ceremonially in native Central and South American tribes due to the extensive physical and spiritual healing properties of this sacred plant.
It is very physically healing, as one of the richest sources of antioxidants and magnesium. Magnesium is therapeutic for anxiety as it calms the nervous system and relaxes the muscles. Cacao boosts Serotonin (happiness, very basically) and Anandamide (know as the bliss molecule) in the body, as well as releasing dopamine and endorphins that can help to alleviate symptoms of depression and PMS and increase focus and motivation.
Partaking in the Cacao Ceremony is, of course, optional. It is a stimulant and contains caffeine, so some people prefer not to consume it in the evening. The cacao is 100% ceremonial-grade (vegan and ethically-sourced), and can shift us from ego to love; our intentions are so much more powerful if they’re fuelled with loving energy and come from our higher selves.
As we drink cacao, our awareness is heightened - both of the sensory external world and of our deep inner landscape - so this ‘earth medicine’ will also support us in our visualisation work, which is a powerful practice for bringing our intentions to life.
